I like to play sports. I play baseball, basketball, soccer and swimming but baseball is the most fun because I am outside and my friends mostly play too.

My older sister is a good softball player and got me to play baseball so someday we can play baseball together. She's better than me now but she is four years older.

When I was a kid I had many great memories, but my favorite is the first time I made a touchdown. So I’m on the D-line at nose guard. I always get through the line to make the sack, but this was my last game and I had made it to the championship.

That day was cold, but it slowly heated up. And since I had never run the ball before, my coach told me to be the quarterback. He said, “Josh, run play Fourteen-Beast!”

I'm a Michigan fan stuck in the middle of Buckeye Country. I moved here five years ago, when I was 10 years old, from Ann Arbor, Michigan. My mother was a professor at the University of Michigan, both parents were Michigan grads, and older sister was a freshman there.

But my father had gotten a job as a hospital administrator in Columbus the year before and spent that year traveling back and forth, which was hard on him and not fun for the family.

Over the years, this rooting phrase has lost its enthusiasm among fans in Pittsburgh for their once loved professional baseball team. This was mainly due to the lack of talent and/or commitment to the product on the playing field.

Lately, the Pirates have become an afterthought for the people who follow the team in the Steel City, just waiting for the Steelers and Penguins to start again.

I just went to my first Major League Baseball game. It was the Indians against the Royals in Cleveland but the game was not so great. The Indians got behind right away when the Royals scored on a home run in the first inning. It was my first homer that I got to see.

I wish it could have been by an Indians player though, but it was still cool. It seemed like it was never going to land, but my uncle said people hit even further home runs than that sometimes.

With the internet now completely integrated into society, we’re used to hearing the news straight from the horse’s mouth almost the instant it happens, but too often we’re sacrificing quality and accuracy for that speed.

In reporting, there are two ways to get ahead: be the first or be the best. For most, it’s easier to be first.

I am going to camp for the first time this summer. It's a sleep-away camp and I will spend a whole week away from my mom and dad and brother for the first time in my life.

I am nervous and a little scared about it but mostly I am excited.

Last year's baseball season got off to a bad start. The day before the season, I hurt my wrist fouling off a ball in the batting cages.

I didn't think it was bad, so I went to practice the next day and after my first two swings, it turned out I tore the same ligament I had strained a day earlier.

Many decades ago this question would have been answered with a resounding yes. Sports stars were the definition of the American hero, appearing to be indestructible; saving lives, changing history and blowing our minds all without even wearing a cape.

However, today—and specifically over the past several years—this glorified image has been tainted due to things like poor judgment, cheating, steroids, scandals, odd story lines escapades, both on...

When I think of a role model, usually the first people I think of are athletes, and why not? We can access so much of what they do during their careers by reading an article online, or watching sports news stations.

But what is sadly becoming a trend in the world of sports are talented athletes—with kids who idolize their every move—showing up in the news for getting arrested on one charge or another.
