We all know how important it is for children to stay hydrated during games and practices, especially with the scorching summer sun overhead.

We also know kids prefer just about anything over plain old water.

Take a Kid to a Game: Not only is it a cool gift, but it's a great way to spend quality time with the family. Most professional teams offer special discounts—Family Nights, Kid Days, Special Seating, etc—so look into their schedules to help save some money.

If the pro teams are too cost-prohibitive, check out the local college or minor league teams.

You may not be aware that you can comparatively shop when choosing your child’s recreational sports associations. Most public school sports limit participants based on where they live and to which school district they belong.

Parents might assume that such restrictions exist for recreational sports leagues also. In most cases, this assumption is incorrect.

Summer camps are a popular part of the summer season for many kids, and even a tradition in many families. The cost of sending your son or daughter away for a week or more, or however, can be daunting.

With gas prices, groceries and just about everything else making it tough on America's collective pocketbooks, it's getting more and more difficult for families to send their kids to camp.

Buying spikes for growing kids can seem like a losing battle. Your son or daughter needs them for their baseball or softball season, you spend your hard-earned dollars on a good pair, and mere months later, they go in the basement till next season.

By then, they will inevitably be too small, and you start the whole process over again.

For a family with two, three or more sports-playing siblings, the dollars start to add up....

So you're ready to get back in shape. A great and popular way to do that is to get the whole family exercising or playing sports together. But with holiday bills due, that gym membership all of a sudden looks awfully expensive. Same with the kids' new basketball shoes or soccer gear.

You don't have to spend a ton to get in shape, however.

Take basketball for instance. A ball, decent shoes and a hoop are all you need. Swimming? A bathing suit and a pool.
