Leave this field empty.
Just to confirm, it snowed before Halloween last year. Think about that the next time somebody says weather is the same as it was when we were kids. And speaking of…

So we have our traditional “camp out night,” every Friday, an instrumental bonding technique we’ve featured in this space previously.

It began with crying. Watching your son cry is never easy, particularly on vacation. But after a week of “encouraging” us to go fishing, failure had taken its toll. So Joseph cried.

For the better part of a week, Joseph had worn the fishing collar. Reel not working, hooks not hooking, sinkers not sinking, fish not biting.

As an avid outdoorsman, camping has always been special to me. Every experience differs and produces bonding second to none.

Bringing kids along both heighten the challenges and the many rewards. This is a column about sharing experiences with your kids. Our tradition is camping, and it certainly fits the bill.

It’s a line I’ve delivered many times, almost always to adults but with the wide-eyed wonderment of a child: “There is no way to explain the Indianapolis 500 unless you’ve been there.”

Otherwise, any attempt is just filling time and space.

It’s the time of season when we make that trip to the sporting goods store to reload for the months ahead. We recently completed our mission – barely.

Getting there is easy. It’s what happens once you arrive that makes it memorable in so many ways.

This column is generally dedicated to basically whatever happened of note over the recent weeks with my sons and me. If it involves sports, fine.

But we’re pretty liberal at KidSPORTS on what is considered sports, at least for this column.

The Monster Jam Truck Series recently came to town. Guess who can’t get enough of 66 inch tires? I don’t know what it is about cars. It’s not like I grew up as a gear head.

But it sure seems like a lot of memories are built around them.

I guess have to admit – and this is really going to date me – that I simply don’t know anything about these newfangled “Dress-Down Days.”

Then again, I never knew anything about “Casual Fridays” in the workplace, nor engaged in any such Communist activities, so maybe I’m the oddball.

First, good news. It's great top be in the thick of the school basketball. We enjoy all the seasons and sports that come with them and each has its own attraction. As with those season's onset, the one upon us brings excitement and anticipation.

Glad to get that out of the way.

Is it winter again? Wasn't it just here?

Before I go on, please understand that I simply have no use for snow. I have no use for winter, come to think of it. Winter is why God made Miami.
